From ‘Woman King’s’ Costume Designer to ‘The Menu’s’ Production Designer, Variety Names 10 Artisans to Watch for 2022

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) has announced its plans to expand global operations. The former head of studio at DNEG Bangalore and Chennai, Kiran ‘KP’ Prasad will head a full pipeline studio which will be based in Mumbai.  The visual effects division of Lucasfilm Ltd. is headquartered in San Francisco and has studios in Vancouver, London, Singapore and Sydney. It will open a new full pipeline studio, operating full visual effects and animation services for film and television in Mumbai to gain access to the talent base in the region.  Prasad will lead operations and report to ILM SVP and General Manager, Janet Lewin. 

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) today announced the establishment of its first LED virtual production stage, located at Sony Innovation Studios in Culver City. With LED virtual production transforming the way film and television are made, the new stage is the world’s largest using Sony’s high brightness and wide color gamut Crystal LED display panels. The panels were created in collaboration with top engineers at SPE for use in virtual production. The establishment of this LED stage allows Sony Innovation Studios (SIS) to expand its virtual production workflow across various entertainment platforms and seamlessly merge the real and virtual worlds with its Atom View technology and proprietary stage-integration software.

The show follows “Sex and the City’s” unforgettable group of New Yorkers — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristen Davis).  When crafting the show’s style, the costume department uses “Sex and the City” high-end classics like Dior and Chanel — while also collaborating with new designers from social media and around the globe.

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor LCD Soundsystem has released their first single in over five years, “New Body Rhumba.” The song features on the soundtrack of Noah Baumbach’s “White Noise,” which will be wide released in theaters on Nov. 25. The Brooklyn dance-rock band is hoping the song will be a major player in the Oscar race for best original song. Released via Columbia Records and DFA Records, James Murphy, Pat Mahoney and Nancy Whang wrote the single, which was produced by Murphy for DFA Productions. “White Noise” will open the New York Film Festival. The film is an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel of the same name and tells the story of a contemporary American family attempting to deal with everyday life’s mundane conflicts amid an airborne toxic event.

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor “The Woman King” director Gina Prince-Bythewood will be feted at the 10th annual Middleburg Film Festival with the Agnès Varda Award, while “Triangle of Sadness” star Dolly De Leon will receive the festival’s Breakthrough Performance Award. “Empire of Light” actor Micheal Ward is being honored with the Spotlight Actor Award. The Sam Mendes film has also been named as the closing night film of the festival. 2019 Distinguished Composer Award recipient Terence Blanchard and his band, the E-Collective, will return to the festival and close out with a music performance.

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor In the end, an old-fashioned filmmaking trick involving heated cardboard helped costume designers re-create Marilyn Monroe’s famous pleated halter dress from “The Seven Year Itch” for Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde.” “On paper, it looks easy,” says “Blonde” costume designer Jennifer Johnson, who worked on many of Monroe’s looks — including that one — for the movie, which is now streaming on Netflix. She started by outfitting the film’s star, Ana de Armas, with a facsimile of the dress from a costume house. “It looked cute,” but it wasn’t right, says Johnson.

King Charles III is keeping his late parents close. On Friday, Buckingham Palace released a photo of the newly minted monarch carrying out official government duties, with a photo of his late mom and dad, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, behind him.Taken in the Eighteenth Century Room at Buckingham Palace last week, the new pic shows Charles reviewing documents from The King’s Red Box, which contains papers from government ministers in the United Kingdom and the Realms and from representatives from the Commonwealth and beyond.The documents are sent from the Private Secretary’s Office to the king, wherever he may be in residence, in a locked red despatch box.As Charles is hard at work, his parents are keeping close watch, as a photo of the late royals sits behind the sovereign.

King Charles III has paid a moving tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in a new official photograph released by Buckingham Palace.The new King, 73, was pictured with his red box for the first time as he carried out his official duties dealing with papers from government ministers in the UK and the realms, as well as Commonwealth representatives. Charles can be seen looking at the red box containing the papers as he donned a blue pinstripe suit, but in the background a subtle nod to his late mother can be seen.

King Charles III wants a "slimmed down coronation" next year on his mother's coronation anniversary.The eldest child of the Queen is set to be coronated next year and could choose the date of Friday 2 June. According to MailOnline, sources have said that the service will most likely be "shorter, smaller and less expensive" than the late Queen's in 1953. However, the service will also celebrate her life.

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor A tropical thunderstorm forced Lady Gaga to cut her Miami concert short just before she could sing ”Rain on Me” and her encore ”Hold My Hand.” Gaga, who has been performing to sold-out crowds on this stadium tour, was at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on the last night of the Chromatica Ball. Interrupting her show, she told the audience, “I’m sorry that we can’t finish but I don’t want to put your life in danger and I don’t want to put our life in danger.” Gaga followed up by posting an emotional video online. Through tears, she apologizes to her fans and says, “We really tried to finish the show tonight in Miami.” She went on to say that lightning strikes were hitting too close to the ground, to her, her crew and her fans.
