Former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott believes Ralf Rangnick's gameplan for Manchester United's trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday should dictate whether or not club captain Harry Maguire makes the starting line-up.
The England defender — who has come in for plenty of criticism this season — was dropped to the bench for last Saturday's goalless draw with Watford at Old Trafford. Rangnick named Victor Lindelof at the heart of the defence alongside Raphael Varane, with the pair helping United earn a second clean sheet in as many home games.
Therefore, it remains to be seen if Maguire will earn his place back in the side for the clash with Manchester City. He started the reverse fixture at Old Trafford back in November but, along with Luke Shaw, was heavily criticised after a chaotic United display.

Maguire will make for a very intriguing team selection call for Rangnick to make on Sunday. However, Lescott believes the German's decision will boil down to how he plans to approach dealing with City.
"Another huge call Rangnick must make is whether to start Harry Maguire," Lescott told LiveScore. "Again, I think it depends on how he sets up the team.
"If United are going to sit back, absorb pressure and play on the break, I think you play him. But if the plan is to go toe-to-toe, I don't think he can start.
"He looks completely bereft of confidence and it's not the type of occasion to play someone who is struggling. The issue with not starting him would be the long-term impact it could have on his personal belief, though.
"At the end of the day, he's the captain and you expect him to lead by example."
