EJ Panaligan editor About 20 minutes past Florence + the Machine’s slated start time for their headlining set at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, most of the venue was still pitch black from a venue-wide power outage. The crowd’s anxiety mounted as many wondered whether the show would still happen — until the stage’s two display screens suddenly rebooted and the Bowl’s lights blared back on. Fans, many wearing flower crowns to match Welch’s mystical aesthetic, roared in thunderous applause at the sight of a Windows login screen — as if Florence herself had stepped onto center stage, and Welch and the group masterfully channeled the chaos into a night to remember.
Clad in a glimmering regal dress, Welch opened the 90-minute performance with the “Dance Fever” scene-setter “Heaven is Here” before transitioning into the album’s opener “King,” with the latter’s wailing outro serving as an early-set display of her immense vocal ability. She showcased her impressive long notes and skillful control of tone at multiple moments throughout the night, but it wasn’t all about flaunting her vocal prowess. She rallied the crowd with high-energy tracks like “Ship to Wreck,” the Jack Antonoff-produced “Free” and her career-defining megahit “Dog Days Are Over.”
Before the frenzied final drop of “Dog Days,” Welch took a few minutes to welcome the crowd to the final stop of her U.S. “Dance Fever” tour, acknowledging that the power outage had almost caused the cancelation of the show before cracking some lighthearted self-referential jokes about her shows. “To anyone out there who may have just been brought along, and you’re wondering: ‘What the fuck is this? Is this a show, or is it a cult? Is it a haunted house experience, or is it a

Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh are only two of many Hollywood celebrities who have shunned red carpet archetypes to stay completely covered up, and instead are opting to bare more in front of flashing camera lights. On Saturday, Wilde stepped out in a shimmering, see-through Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture gown for the second annual Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles, which drew just as much discussion for its impeccable design as it did for the styling choice when Olivia's sheer dress revealed her bare chest. Leaving undergarments at home isn't a new fashion choice for A-list celebrities, but showing more comfort with taking risks in wardrobe choices — whether on Instagram or at a movie premiere — continues to be all the rage.
Olivia Wilde joked about begging to be "placed into a medically induced coma" during her Don't Worry Darling press tour at ELLE's Women in Hollywood event on Monday. The filmmaker's latest movie was overshadowed by various dramas before its September release, with the headlines speculating if she was feuding with her lead actress Florence Pugh, whether her leading man Harry Styles spat on Chris Pine during the Venice Film Festival, and if she fired Shia LaBeouf from the movie or he quit. During her speech at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, honouree Olivia thanked her fellow women in Hollywood for helping her stay motivated during stressful times.
EJ Panaligan editor As part of a new initiative, the United States Mint will honor Anna May Wong, star of movies such as “Shanghai Express,” by making her the first Asian American featured on U.S. currency, placing her likeness on quarters with production starting Oct. 18. The printed quarter shows an image of Wong resting on her hand, serving as a tribute to what most consider the first Chinese American movie star. She was born in 1905 in Chinatown, Los Angeles and died in 1961 of a heart attack in her Santa Monica home. Wong started her career in the entertainment business at 14 years old, talking her way into her first movie role. In the following years, she rose to stardom as among the first Asian American stars in Hollywood and appeared in more than 50 films. Though the quarter seeks to pay tribute to her career in the film industry, it also acknowledges the difficulties that came her way trying to land meaningful roles as an Asian American actress during a time where racial discrimination and commonplace practices of putting white actors in “yellowface” to portray Asian characters was prevalent. In addition, Wong’s characters were often killed in the films she acted in, which she once joked about, saying that she had already “died a thousand deaths.”

While members of the media have taken to mocking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ "go-go" boots and the side-eyes he and President Biden supposedly gave each other at a recent press conference on Hurricane Ian, the Republican governor said he’s been mobilizing a historic effort to restore power and stability to the areas most impacted by the Category 4 hurricane that claimed at least 137 lives. Days before Hurricane Ian made landfall, DeSantis declared a state of emergency for the state while bringing in more than 42,000 linemen and over 1.6 million gallons of fuel to prepare for recovery efforts, DeSantis’ office told Fox News Digital.
