A teenager who died after two cars crashed before landing in the River Dee has been named as trainee mechanic Dylan Atkinson.
The 19-year-old was tragically pronounced dead at the scene after his red Audi collided with a BMW on the A93, near Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, at around 8.05am on Monday. A 26-year-old man, who was driving the other motor, was rushed to Raigmore Hospital where staff describe his condition as "stable".
A police probe into the circumstances of the tragic crash remains ongoing.
Dylan’s parents, James and Trish Atkinson, have released the following statement: “There are no words. There is no tomorrow. There is only now. There is no escape, there is only pain.“Dylan was our life and his irrepressible enthusiasm & energy will continue in our hearts and of those who knew him well. Our family is broken and it will never heal, it will just change. Our hearts are full of love and that will always stay.“Everyone’s thoughts, messages and support are a comfort and please know how much that means to us all.”
Heartbroken pals have paid tribute to petrolhead Dylan, who was known for his love of cars. Sharing the police appeal on social media, one wrote: “RIP Dylan will miss you.”
Another said: “Rest in peace sweet boy. I got the news this morning and I just can’t imagine what your family is going through just now and friends. There is not a word I can say that will make any of it better.
"Truly tragic and my heart goes out to everyone. Your brothers, mum, dad. Everyone. I can’t believe it. Just before Christmas - I daresay there’s never a good time for something like this to happen but this is absolutely heartbreaking.
