‘The Lost Weekend: A Love Story’ Review: May Pang Tells Her Story, and a Piece of John Lennon’s, in a Compelling Documentary

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film CriticThe so-called Lost Weekend, when John Lennon, from late 1973 through ’74, separated from Yoko Ono and relocated to Los Angeles, where he became a hard-drinking rock-club night owl while carrying on an affair with the 22-year-old May Pang (who had been John and Yoko’s assistant), has long been part of rock mythology. It’s been covered by everything from E! documentaries to Albert Goldman’s “The Lives of John Lennon.” Like many Lennon observers, I’ve always felt like I knew the basic bones of it.I knew that John and Yoko, after marrying in 1969 and seeming like inseparable soulmates in art and life, began to have problems as a couple.

Benediction: The Film On Queer British Poet Siegfried Sassoon Is A Must Watch

By Renee Lou Dallow“God was in his heaven, and there were sausages for breakfast.”Terence Davies’ new film, Benediction, is about the life, loves and the poetry of queer World War 1 British poet Siegfried Sassoon. In the film, he is asked by a military tribunal if he is pro-German, to which Siegfried played by Jack Lowden replies,  “I’m pro-human.” Sassoon, a decorated war hero who became disillusioned with the endless conflict and casualties, was anti-war and spoke out against the powers of the day failing to state conditions for peace. The film then moves to another conflict – his life and struggles with his homosexuality. A long passionate affair with actor Ivor Novello (Jeremy Irvine) and a somewhat more sensitive and empathetic relationship with Stephen Tennant (Calm Lynch) follow before Sassoon marries Hester Gatty (Kate Phillips) and has a son, George (Richard Goulding).

Love Island alcohol: How much are the Islanders really allowed to drink?

Love Island is usually at its peak when the contestants are battening down the hatches for a storm - and by that, we mean a huge row. But can we blame it on the booze that got them feeling loose, Jamie Foxx style? As it happens, no, we can't blame it on the alcohol because Islanders only get two drinks per night in the villa. Which might come as a shock when you remember some of the greatest island arguments, including Faye and Teddy and 'storm Anna' herself.

BGT viewers accuse judges of 'ruining' The Witch's performance as they're sent home

Britain’s Got Talent viewers have accused the judges of ‘ruining’ act The Witch's performance on the first of the live semi-final shows on Monday night. Despite being one of the most popular acts on social media and impressing judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams, the act didn’t get through to Sunday night’s final. While an automatic spot went to opera singer Maxwell Thorpe, the judges' votes were split, choosing to send through Jamie Leahey, a 13 year old ventriloquist over Junwoo.
