‘Fire Country’: Tia Napolitano Set As Showrunner On CBS’ New Max Thieriot Drama Series

The tight race for one of Emmy’s most prestigious categories, Outstanding Drama Series, is the topic for this week’s edition of Deadline’s podcast, TV TALK.  Awards Columnist and Chief Film Critic Pete Hammond and Deadline TV critic Dominic Patten go at it in trying to make sense of the contenders, and who may have the edge – or not. Last year the winner was Netflix’s The Crown which finally triumphed after several tries and led to a breakthrough in the category for the first time for the streamer. However, as is the case with so many series that take a year off – or more – and then return to the contest, The Crown is not eligible to defend its Emmy crown this time around.

FOX Entertainment is taking on 2022 with TV shows on everything from country music to crime and cooking. Charlie Collier, the CEO of FOX Entertainment, detailed what's to come on the network, including the previously announced "Monarch," which will star Trace Adkins and Susan Sarandon.  The show is about "three generations of a country music family juggling life's rawest emotions — love and lust, hate and heartache, living in the shadow of your parents and coming-of-age," Collier described before previewing a clip of "Monarch." "MasterChef" Gordon Ramsay is set to debut his new competition show, "Gordon Ramsay's Food Stars," and will also have his series "Next Level Chef" premiere after the Super Bowl next February.  In "Food Stars," Ramsay will front $250,000 of his own cash to find the "next big culinary entrepreneur." The missing persons' drama "tells the story of a high-tech police unit whose job is to find the missing, the abducted or kidnapped and help them reunite with their loved ones before it's too late," Foxx said during the presentation.  FOX is also bringing a crime anthology series titled "Accused." The show hails from the creative minds behind "Homeland" and "24" as well as the creator of "House." Marlee Matlin and Billy Porter will direct the first two episodes.

Carson Burton The world is Nat Geo’s playground with the network’s newly announced slate of unscripted content.Ahead of Disney’s upfront presentation on Tuesday in New York City, National Geographic on Monday announced a new slate of six personality-driven series aimed to showcase various aspects of culture from around the world. The new shows will feature notable personalities Derek Hough, Kristen Kish, Jeff Jenkins, Indy Srinath and Christian Cooper — as well as high school competitors of a global science fair competition.Renowned dancer Derek Hough will guide viewers around the world on an exploration of dance history and trends in the new show “Dance the World With Derek Hough.” In each episode, Hough will team up with a celebrity guest to embark on a journey to uncover the global cultural traditions that shape dance.

Fox has given a straight-to-series order to Alert, a character-driven police procedural from The Blacklist showrunner John Eisendrath and Jamie Foxx. The pickup was part of Fox’s upfront slate announcement for the 2022-23 season.

K.J. Yossman “Nanny McPhee” director Kirk Jones is set to take on Donald Trump in his first television series, “You’ve Been Trumped.”The drama, based on Anthony Baxter’s 2011 documentary, tells the story of a small Scottish village who took on the then-reality TV star when he tried to build a golf course in a nature reserve.

It’s a big year for Emmerdale as the soap gears up to celebrate 50 years of being on TVs across the country. In his time on the ITV soap Samson Dingle has been part of some of the soap’s biggest storylines since his birth to parents Alice and Sam Dingle in 2006. His premature birth, mum’s cancer diagnosis and dad’s part in helping her die all happened in the first eight months of his time on the soap.
