Film Review: Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg & Dave Franco In Vampire-Hunter Romp ‘Day Shift’

The vampire genre has survived innumerable indignities over the decades — Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter or Dracula 2000, anyone? — so it will surely emerge largely intact after the abuse is must now endure courtesy of Day Shift. The premise isn’t half-bad, with a leading-man vampire attempting to go straight for the sake of his wife and young daughter, and the presence of Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dogg in leading roles provides some allure, amusement and cache. But the script never remotely rises to the occasion, resulting in a hodge-podgy mess that, at nearly two hours, is also a half-hour too long for its own, or anyone else’s, good.

Huji filter, with music-video aesthetics and styling (consider Mimmi’s sleek, bleached eyebrows, for instance). But the screenplay by Daniela Hakulinen and Ilona Ahti is full of nuance and room to breathe. These girls are figuring out who they are, and the script is smart enough to know they won’t have answers to those questions after the third Friday night. The girls’ conversations feel open and earnest, their jokes smug and immature the way only teens’ jokes are.

patka and cuts his hair.Screenwriter Atul Kulkarni’s decision to speak about the possibility of unity in India, or at least to see one’s enemies as people with similar hopes and fears, stands as the most compelling narrative transformation in “Laal.” To that virtuous ideological end, Brother Muhammed (Manav Vij), a Muslim fighter Laal saves from dying, replaces Lieutenant Dan. Their interreligious friendship illustrates the film’s message of tolerance. Those most familiar with the original Best Picture winner will likely catch themselves searching for its best remembered elements, including the scene where Gump receives a medal from President Lyndon B.

‘Thirteen Lives’: How Hints of a Thai Folk Melody Subtly Informed Benjamin Wallfisch’s Score

Jon Burlingame editorComposer Benjamin Wallfisch has a vast amount of experience scoring films, from “Hidden Figures” and “Blade Runner 2049” to “It” and “The Invisible Man.” Yet nothing had quite prepared him to score “Thirteen Lives,” the true story of the rescue of a dozen boys and their coach from a flooded cave in northern Thailand in 2018.“It turned out to be one of the hardest scores I’ve ever worked on,” Wallfisch says. “Everything you thought might work, just didn’t work.” Plus, COVID restrictions prevented him from traveling to Thailand to research the music.

‘Prey’ Film Review: This Is How You Reboot A Horror Franchise

The Predator franchise is the ugly step-child of horror monster cannon. Fans know about it, are aware of it, but don’t necessarily give it the credit it deserves. With the original film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the sequel with Danny Glover, a bunch of Alien vs. Predator crossover films, and an attempt at a reboot in 2018, it is the one franchise that lacks consistency. However, director Dan Trachtenberg gives the film a new edge by inserting the titular monster in an 18th-century setting to see how the people hold up against the advanced technology of the warrior creature.

‘Bullet Train’ Film Review: Brad Pitt Caper Comedy Suffers From Terminal Self-Satisfaction

Bullet trains seem great; why don’t we have them in the United States? Will I ever get to see Mount Fuji? I wonder what flavors of Kit Kats they sell on that train? These thoughts occurred because my brain refused to engage with this glib, terminally self-satisfied blood-and-bullets extravaganza, one that feels like it was plucked from what we might call the “Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead” period of American cinema, when Quentin Tarantino’s first two features emboldened far too many young filmmakers to think that they, too, could make a zippy comedy with excessive gunplay, explicit gore, pop-culture references, needle drops, and a briefcase full of cash.Having programmed a film festival from 1995 to 1999, I was subjected to more bad “Reservoir Dogs” wannabes than the average filmgoer, which might explain why this new film turned me off early and never won me back. “Bullet Train” pretty much leaves no cliché of this subgenre unturned, from swoopy, self-conscious camera moves to a shootout scored to an innocuous hit single of the past.

"Thirteen Lives" depicts the phenomenal true story of the incredible global effort to rescue a Thai soccer team trapped in the Tham Luang cave during an unexpected rainstorm.  Faced with tremendous challenges, a team of the world’s most experienced divers navigated the maze of flooded, narrow cave tunnels. The divers were joined by Thai forces and more than 10,000 volunteers to complete the mission of rescuing 12 boys and their coach.  Amazon Prime Video’s "Thirteen Lives" director Ron Howard told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview that none of the cast members "dared complain," while filming on set.  (Getty Images) Howard detailed how complex filming "Thirteen Lives" truly was and described how "exhausting" it was to capture the underwater scenes.
