Fernandinho says the love and respect he has had from Manchester City fans has been a big factor in him staying at the club for nine years. And the Brazilian ace, who plays his final game against Aston Villa on Sunday - when he hopes to lift the Premier League trophy for the fifth time - says he is virtually a Mancunian now.
The 37-year-old has called time on his Blues career after making 382 appearances, and will return to Brazil with his family to wind up his playing career. If City beat Villa, he will become the most decorated player in the club’s history with 12 major trophies, as he already has six League Cups to add to his one FA Cup and four league titles, placing him joint top with David Silva on 11.
He is sure to get a rousing send-off if City win the title but given the uncertain nature of what will happen on Sunday there are no specific plans to give him an organised farewell, as happened with David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta. But Fernandinho has sent his own message to the Blues fans who took him to their hearts after his £30million move from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2013.

“That is why I spent nine years here as the kids were settled in school with friends, my wife was settled as well. It was really important to keep me calm
