Over two months after Gabby Petito’s body was discovered in Bridger-Teton National Forest on September 19, a lawyer for her boyfriend Brian Laundrie’s family Steve Bertolino revealed that Laundrie’s cause of death has been revealed as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He noted that Laundrie’s parents Chris and Roberta have been informed, and are mourning their son’s death.

We’ve spoken a lot about how big a mistake it was for the North Port Police to let Brian Laundrie slip away and disappear.

For most, the Brian Laundrie search is over. The skeletal remains found over three weeks ago were identified using dental records — proving the sole person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito was dead.

Well, that’s one mystery completely solved.

Does anyone else feel like this case should have been exceedingly simple? And yet somehow, be it through poor judgment, lack of cooperation with law enforcement, or mismanagement of resources, the knot seems even more complicated than when we first started trying to untie it.

Finally finding Brian Laundrie after a month long manhunt should have been a relief for everyone following the case. Unfortunately the fact the authorities were not able to bring him in alive and question the sole person of interest means the murder of Gabby Petito may never be completely solved.
