Fathom Events, Spain’s Bosco Prepare a U.S. Theatrical Release in September for Documentary ‘Libres’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Canneseries world premiere, Movistar+ has shared in exclusivity with Variety the international trailer to “The Left Handed Son” (“El hijo zurdo”), the directorial debut of Rafael Cobos, writer of Alberto Rodríguez international hit “Marshland” banner TV series “The Plague.”  Cobos also wrote Rodriguez’s memorable episode in “Offworld,” a market screening at this year’s MipTV. Movistar+, which produces with José Antonio Félez’s Atipica Films, its partner on “The Plague” and “Prison 1977,” has also announced the release date for “The Left-Handed Son,” whose episodes will all be made available on Movistar+, Spain’s biggest SVOD/pay TV platform, on April 27. 

McKinley Franklin author Angel Studios has acquired worldwide distribution rights for “Sound of Freedom” ahead of the film’s 2023 theatrical release. “Sound of Freedom” is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, a former US government agent that quits his job to rescue children from global sex traffickers. Ballard (Jim Caviezel), a federal agent, finds himself losing hope in the dark field of children crime work. However, Ballard quickly uncovers his life mission when he’s able to free a 7-year-old boy that was kidnapped. When the young boy asks Ballard to find his sister who was also kidnapped, Ballard decides to devote his life to rescuing children from sex slavery. Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino and Emmy-nominee Bill Camp co-star.

EXCLUSIVE: After a two year journey to gain back the rights to The Way, Emilio Estevez has arranged with Fathom Events to re-release the film nationwide on May 16 on about 800 screens or more. Callum McLennan “Girl, Unknown,” the sophomore feature from Spanish director Pablo Maqueda (“Dear Werner”), currently ranks as one of the early buzz titles at the Málaga Film Festival, even before its world premiere. The film adapts Paco Bezerra’s stage play “Grooming.”  Maqueda, Bezerra and Haizea G. Viana wrote the script, which retains the play’s unsettling cat-and-mouse element. It delves into the recesses of desire, raising questions on depravity, sexuality, and the drive to be fulfilled. The story unfolds a pendulum swinging power dynamic between the seemingly innocent 16 year old Carolina, and a middle aged man she meets in a park named Leo. What begins and is a case of grooming morphs into something far more complex due to Carolina not being all she seems. Maqueda shows a Hanekesque talent in balancing the disturbing with the thrilling. On the film, Maqueda told Variety: “I feel the film as a kaleidoscope and the characters as masks. I like stories that navigate in the daily terror of everyday life,”

Richard Gere and his family are taking some time to enjoy the outdoors after the actor's recent hospitalization. On Sunday, Gere's wife, Alejandra Silva Gere, took to Instagram to share a family photo that included the couple, along with one of their sons, spending time on a farm. "In these times, especially if you live in the city, it is so difficult to be able to enjoy the basic pleasures that nature offers us — for me, the ones I value the most and those I want to instill in my family," Alejandra first captioned the post in Spanish.
