All families could face a £120 fine for taking their children on holiday during school time, with new rules potentially being introduced to crackdown on kids missing lessons. Local councils current decide whether to issue a fine to parents or not, which means that while some have to pay the £120 fee, others manage to avoid the charges.

The new rules would apply to any parents whose kids have five days of unauthorised absence or lateness within one term, have taken holidays during term time, or have been seen out in public during the first five days of an exclusion.
