Former Manchester United prospect Demi Mitchell made light of some of his previous comments as he secured a return to Scotland.
The 25-year-old came through the youth system at Old Trafford, and made a single senior appearance for United against Crystal Palace in 2017.
Mitchell left the club in 2020, joining Blackpool after a successful trial, and helped the Tangerines to promotion back to the Championship.
He’s now moved on to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership – although before his arrival was confirmed, there were a few questions to be answered.
Mitchell previously played for Hibs’ bitter rivals Hearts, having taken in two loan spells with the Edinburgh club during his time at United.
Upon arriving at Hearts, Mitchell said there were “only a handful of big clubs in the Scottish league, which is Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen and Hearts”.
When asked about their rivals, Mitchell replied “Hibs, who are they?”.
Announcing his arrival at the club, his new club released a video showing Mitchell being interrogated over his previous comments, as well as being confronted with some of his previous tweets from his time at Hearts.
After being shown trembling as he took a drink and wiping sweat away from his brow, Mitchell buried the hatchet as he ended the video by saying: “Guys, we have all said things that we shouldn’t have. I was young, I was immature, but I’m here and I’m buzzing to get going.”
The former United full-back joins Hibs for an undisclosed fee from Blackpool, having signed a deal until 2024.
