Escape To Freight Island will be reopening this weekend, following its month-long shut down after Christmas.
The reopening kicks off with the annual Art Battle event this Friday (January 28), in which 10 local artists will take part in a live, on-stage ‘paint off’.
Artworks created on the night will then be auctioned off, with the proceeds this year going to Mary-Ellen McTague’s non-profit Eat Well MCR, which provides meals for those suffering food poverty in the city.
There will then be DJs playing through the weekend, among them Manchester institutions like The Unabombers, Supernature Disco, Dave Haslam, DJ Paulette and Clint Boon.
Also among the attractions will be free performances from live bands every Wednesday, including The Untold Orchestra, Mali Hayes and Tom Seals.
Then lined up for February will be coverage of the Six Nations rugby championship.
From February 5 to March 19, the venue will be converting a dedicated space within the former train depot for broadcasting live matches, in a collaboration with Guinness.
The venue will also be launching a competition to win a ‘black card’, entitling the winner to ‘free food and drink’ for a year (meaning a tab of £500 every month for 12 months).
Those who book in to visit on either January 29 or 30 will be in for a chance to win.
Opening hours are 4pm to 11pm, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 12pm till 12am on Fridays, and 12pm till 1am on Saturdays and 12pm till 8pm on Sundays.
