One of Coronation Street's original cast members, Ernst Walder, has died at the age of 94.The actor played the role of Ivan Cheveski, who was the son-in-law of Elsie Tanner in the hit soap opera. He was also the boyfriend of the show's co-creator Tony Warren in the 1960s. According to metro.co.uk, he passed away on Monday 6 September last year, but it was not known until now.
Former writer of the cobbles show Daran Little took to Twitter to share his sadness over the loss after it was reported on Coronation Street Blog. Ernst was born in November 1927 in Salzburg, Austria, and his acting career began back in 1958 when he played the role of policeman in The Safecracker. Just two years later he joined the cast of Coronation Street for its second ever episode, where he played Ivan sporadically between the show's start until 1967.
