Erik ten Hag has hailed Jadon Sancho and Luke Shaw for their “good combinations” in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Omonia on Thursday.
A Scott McTominay strike in the third minute of stoppage time bailed the hosts out of an embarrassing draw, with visiting goalkeeper Francis Uhozo in inspired form. Sancho grabbed the assist for the winner, showing composure while being pressed before delivering the cross.
Sancho was brought off at half-time in last week’s reverse fixture in Cyprus before being benched against Everton on Sunday. Luke Shaw earned his first Premier League start since August 13 against the Toffees and replaced Tyrell Malacia for the final 30 minutes on Thursday.

Speaking to in-house media after the game, Ten Hag praised the English duo for their partnership down the left flank, stating that Sancho’s late display was more fruitful than last week’s outing against Omonia. "Of course, the one performance [against Omonia] is better than the other one, that is clear,” he said.
“But you see today, he had an impact, some good dribbles and good combinations with Luke Shaw. And finally, he was involved in scoring the goal."
He also detailed what his game plan was for Sancho and other wingers at the club, adding: "When you beat one, the pitch is open.”
"You need an overload around the ball and show that they have combinations or dribbles. And especially with the creative players like Jadon and Antony, they can beat players in a one against one.
"But it gets more simple for them when they have options to play around. So, I want to create that overload in the wide areas so they can do that."
