Anthony Edwards has joined the cast of the Broadway musical Girl from the North Country… with just a few hours notice!
The 59-year-old ER actor’s wife Mare Winningham is the star of the musical and she called him on Friday afternoon (May 13) to ask if he’d be willing to fill in for another actor who was out due to COVID-19.
The performance would have been canceled if Anthony didn’t fill in, so he drove two hours to New York City from their home in Connecticut to appear in the show.
Anthony only got one hour of rehearsal time before making his debut in the musical as Dr. Walker. Even with such little rehearsal time, he only needed his script for some of the evening and was off-book for other scenes.
The producers have released a backstage video in which Anthony and Mare, who just got a Tony nomination for her performance, talk about the rare moment.
You can catch Anthony in Girl from the North Country through the rest of this weekend!
