Emmerdale actor Andy Devine died of pneumonia after having an "accidental fall", a coroner has found.The star, who played Shadrach Dingle on the ITV soap, sadly passed away at the age of 79 on January 27, but it was only revealed on Monday 3 May. It has been revealed that Andy, who's real name is Peter Devine, contracted the disease after he was admitted to hospital following an accidental fall. "He was unable to get up until his carers arrived to assist him which was about an hour later," Sefton Senior Coroner Julie Goulding said in a statement.

"Not withstanding all appropriate care and treatment, Peter's condition deteriorated culminating in his death." The coroner added that the actor's medical cause of death was determined as "hospital acquired pneumonia," according to reports from Daily Mail.
She also concluded that the cause of death was "accident". Devine became one of the most iconic stars on Emmerdale as Shadrach, as he played staple Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Chas Dingle's (Lucy Pargeter) father. Shadrach appeared in the Yorkshire Dales for 10 years and was at the centre of many major storylines with the soap's major family.The character was then referred to in recent years as the ITV soap explored a domestic abuse storyline.
