Elton John announces Rina Sawayama, BERWYN and more as BST Hyde Park support

Elton John, who is currently on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road world tour, said: "Hello Brian, it's Elton. Have a wonderful 80th birthday with Melinda and your family. I'm in Denmark but I send you so much love.

Brian Wilson is today (June 20) celebrating his 80th birthday, and a number of stars have flocked to wish the legendary musician many happy returns.To celebrate the Beach Boys icon’s eight decades on the planet, his official social media channels have shared a seven-minute video featuring tributes from the likes of Elton John, Chuck D, Fleet Foxes, Bob Dylan, Carole King, Graham Nash, Smokey Robinson and many more.“You’ve inspired me all my life. To me you’re the only real pop genius in the world, and I love you very much,” John says as the video begins, followed by an impromptu rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ from Robinson.After messages from Don Was and Lyle Lovett, one-time Beach Boys members Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin chime in, followed by Wilson’s current touring band.In addition to musicians, a number of film stars also jump in to celebrate the life of Wilson, including Jeff Bridges, Cameron Crowe and John Cusack (who played Wilson in the biopic Love & Mercy).“Happy 80th Birthday Brian from your fellow performers!” the video’s caption reads.

Stadium of Light, wasting no time in pulling out the big guns, as he kicked off the show with anthems Bennie and the Jets and Philadelphia Freedom. There were plenty of star shaped glasses and sparkly jackets among the fans inside the ground, many of whom had waited and months and months to see Elton after buying tickets when they first went on sale.

Duran Duran have announced the full line-up for their BST Hyde Park show next month, with AURORA and Laura Mvula among some of the additions.The pop legends headline the show at London’s Hyde Park on July 10, with Nile Rodgers & Chic previously confirmed to support. Now, Warmduscher, Charlotte Adigéry, Rozzi, Stacey Ryan, Faux Real and Love Sick have been confirmed as additional supports alongside AURORA and Mvula.Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon said: “It’s an extraordinary line-up – it so happens that I’ve featured five of the acts on my radio show, WHOOOSH! – looks like I’ll be spending the entire day dipped in music.”Bassist John Taylor added: “We are incredibly excited for Hyde Park with so many sensational guests like Aurora and Warmduscher, and our old friends Nile Rodgers & CHIC.

Elton John began the UK leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Norwich last night (June 15) – check out fan-shot footage and the full setlist below.The pop legend announced the first UK dates for his final ever run of shows in 2018, stating then that he wanted to spend more time at home with his two young children.However, the Australian leg of the tour was brought to a sudden halt in March 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. The stint eventually resumed in New Orleans, Louisiana this January almost two years on from John’s previous live appearance.After recently wrapping a string of European concerts, the singer has now made his UK live return.

Orville Peck has covered Elton John’s ‘Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters’ as part of Amazon’s ongoing Pride Month celebrations.The new take on the 1972 track, which appeared on John’s ‘Honky Chateau’ album, are part of the platform’s PROUD playlist.The masked country star brought the song into his own world, swapping John’s piano melodies for acoustic guitar strums and swooning country twangs.“I chose this song because it was always one of my favourites when I was younger,” Peck explained. “I just really think the storytelling in it is evocative and beautiful. Pearl Jam have announced a number of new additions to their BST Hyde Park shows next month.The gigs on July 8 and 9 will be the band’s biggest ever London shows. Pearl Jam were originally due to headline BST Hyde Park in 2021 alongside Duran Duran but the event was cancelled as a result of the COVID pandemic.Newly announced support acts for the shows include October Drift, Fatherson, LIFE and Daytime TV on July 8.

Elton John has reassured fans that he’s ok after he was pictured in a wheelchair ahead of his performance for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.The pop legend, whose pre-recorded performance will be shown at tomorrow’s (June 4) celebration at Buckingham Palace, clarified the situation on his Instagram.“I want to thank all my fans for reaching out to ask about my health, after the tabloids ran a silly story about my [sic] ‘looking frail’ in a wheelchair.“The true story is that I’m in top health, loving my shows and playing and singing at my very best. Elton John took to Instagram on Thursday to insist he is in good health after he was pictured looking frail in a wheelchair after suffering a fall.  Sharing a picture of himself on stage, the 75-year-old wrote: 'I want to thank all my fans for reaching out to ask about my health. 'The true story is that I’m in top health, loving my shows and playing and singing at my very best.

Elton John, 75, appeared frail as he was pictured in a wheelchair ahead of his planned Jubilee performance.  The singer was clad in one of his trademark Gucci tracksuits and wore a face mask when arrived at Leipzig Airport in a wheelchair on Friday, before heading home to Nice after his show.  Elton is due to star alongside Queen and Diana Ross for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee concert on Saturday in a pre-recorded performance.
