Norwegian starlet Elias Melkersen has penned a bumper four-and-a-half year deal with Hibs to become the first signing of the Shaun Maloney era.
The 19-year-old arrives on a £325,000 deal from FK Bodø/Glimt after catching the eye of Easter Road scouts while on loan at Ranheim.
Melkersen, who has signed until 2026, is heralded as one of the brightest talents coming out of Norway and can play anywhere across the front three.
His 17 goals for Ranheim last season thrust him into the spotlight and onto the international stage with Norway’s U20s with who he’s netted twice in just three games.
Melkersen will vie with Kevin Nisbet and Christian Doidge for the striker’s role at Easter Road.
And Maloney said: “Elias is a really talented young player who has genuine potential to play a big part and, ultimately, to be very successful at this club.
“We will have to give him time, of course, to adapt to our style of play as a team and also to our league, so we’ll be conscious of this.
“He’s an exciting, attacking talent, technically good with both feet and he has good attributes to drop deeper on the pitch. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
Melkersen is just the first of what's expected to be a busy transfer window in Leith.
Arsenal defender Harry Clarke is expected to be confirmed on an 18-month loan deal in the next 24 hours while Celtic midfielder Ewan Henderson is also close to agreeing a move.
