Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar has admitted that it was a 'hard blow' losing winger Antony to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
United confirmed the signing of Antony from Ajax in a deal rising to €100million (£85.5m) in August, with the 22-year-old signing a five-year contract with the option of an additional year. The Brazilian became the club's second-most expensive signing of all time.
Erik ten Hag was desperate to sign the Ajax man, but the club were initially reluctant to meet the Dutch club's valuation of the player and club figures doubted a deal was doable at the start of July. However, Antony made his intention clear to sign for United and work with Ten Hag again, and the two clubs were able to reach an agreement for a transfer for the 22-year-old.

Antony scored on his United debut as Ten Hag's side secured a 3-1 victory over Arsenal, but he failed to influence the game as the Reds lost to Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday night.
United legend, and current Ajax chief, Van der Sar has since admitted that it was difficult for new Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder to lose Antony in the summer, but that the club wishes the winger all the best for the future.
"It’s nice for a manager we explained to him what types of players were leaving and which players we thought were staying," said Van der Sar.
"To lose Antony to Manchester United was a hard blow for the manager, technical people, we wish him all the best but we will miss him on nights like tonight (Tuesday)."
