Edinson Cavani has been told by one of his former teammates that he will need to take a pay cut once he leaves Manchester United this season.
On Thursday, the 35-year-old hinted that he would not have signed a new deal at United had he known Cristiano Ronaldo was joining the club. He explained that he had discussed the possibility of leaving with his brother.
However, following a campaign that has been riddled with injuries, Cavani is now expected to leave Old Trafford once his contract expires in the summer. Despite reaching the twilight of his career, it is believed that Cavani is favouring a move to another European club rather than rounding off his playing days in his home country.

His former teammate at Napoli Salvatore Aronica has warned Cavani that his contract could be a stumbling block in any future move back to Serie A. Aronica told Firenze Viola: "Edinson is a unique professional, and his numbers and qualities prove it.
"He has always been a model athlete, always careful about his diet, physical condition and private life. He has extraordinary calico skills.
"The scariest thing is definitely the salary. At the moment, he travels on figures that are prohibitive for almost all Serie A clubs, Fiorentina would have to make a big economic effort, and at the same time, Cavani would have to come to the aid of the purple club.
"If I were [Rocco] Commisso, if there was even a chance of bringing the striker to Florence, I would take him immediately. At Fiorentina, he would be an added value for experience, curriculum and quality."
