EastEnders fans have been left in shock after another resident bid farewell to Albert Square just a day after the BBC One soap said goodbye to Jada Lennox and her daughter Alyssa in a double exit. Despite initially fearing how her father, Harvey, would cope if she moved out of Walford in order to attend university, viewers saw Dana Monroe finally make the leap and embark on her next adventure. After her dad's relationship with ex partner Jean Slater came to an end, Dana had been left concerned about her father’s odd behaviour, only to discover that he had been planning a surprise party for her.
With her loved ones gathered to send her off to uni, Dana said goodbye to her former boyfriend Bobby Beale before speaking to Harvey and Jean. Ensuring that they both had someone to look out for them while she was away, Dana told them: “Just because the two you aren’t [together] anymore, you can still look out for each other,” before making her way to the tube station and hugging her doting dad. Following the emotional exit, fans of the soap took to social media to reveal how they’d miss seeing the popular character on the square.
“Going to miss Dana so much. Pure Julie Cooper situation, in that she’s a character full of so much potential when we said goodbye to her. [broken heart emoji] #EastEnders,” wrote one viewer.
“Farewell Dana, you’ll forever be my comfort character :,) #EastEnders,” another added. “It really is sad to see Dana leave the square [sad face emoji] #EastEnders,” wrote another fan. After joining the show last year, Dana, who is played by 24 year old Barbara Smith, became a popular character among fans, with the actress calling her first time on set a “surreal” experience.
