After four years, Dean Gaffney is making a comeback to acting as he is confirmed to star in a new pantomime this April. Dean, 45, is confirmed as the Prince in the upcoming production of Rapunzel, which is loosely based on the Disney movie, Tangled. Kerry Katona,42, is also scheduled to feature in the new pantomime, playing Mother Gothel who keeps Rapunzel locked away in the tower.
Many other famous faces will be making an appearance, as Strictly Come Dancing's Joanne Clifton will be taking on the role of Rapunzel, and BGT star Jamie and his puppet Chuck as the Court Jesters. Dean shared his exciting pantomime announcement on Instagram, writing: "Panto at Easter, who'd of thought it!" Dean is known for playing Sonia Fowlers dopey brother Robbie Jackson in Eastenders and hasn’t been seen on the show since his character moved to India with his ex-partner Nita, and son Sami. In 2020, Dean also starred in the E4 reality TV series Celebs Go Dating.
During his time on the show, he admitted that he was struggling to find love. Dean told the show that it “gets harder when you're older” to commit to the dating scene. Before going on Celebs Go Dating, Dean was under strict instructions not to embarrass his twin daughters, who were 22 years old at the time.
“They were the first people I asked before I signed up to do the show,” he says. “They were like, ‘Dad, just don’t embarrass us’.” In January, Dean shared the exciting news that he became a grandfather for the second time, as daughter Chloe welcomed her second child. Dean gushed over his second grandchild and shared a sweet snap online where he also revealed the little ones name.
