EastEnders has confirmed that six characters will be returning for Dot Cotton's emotional funeral after actress June Brown passed away aged 95 in April. Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa), George "Lofty" Holloway (Tom Watt), Colin Russell (Lord Michael Cashman CBE), Barry Clark (Gary Hailes), Mary "the punk" Smith (Linda Davidson) and Disa O’Brien (Jan Graveson) will join together to say goodbye to Dot. The returning cast are currently filming scenes for the emotional funeral, where they share their cherished memories of Dot, and will also bring viewers up to date with their lives.
It's also a chance for the soap stars to honour their beloved late co-star June, who had played the iconic Dot since 1985. Speaking about the importance of bringing back Dot’s loved ones for her final farewell, EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw said: "It’s an honour to invite so many of Walford’s beloved characters back to pay tribute to Dot. "Over the years, Dot profoundly impacted the lives of many young people struggling with life’s biggest challenges." In the upcoming scenes, Lauren, who left in 2018 and has been in New Zealand with on-screen son Louie, finds much has changed in Albert Square – and she’s very keen to get to know one handsome resident.Talking about returning, Lauren star Jacqueline, 29, said: "Coming back to EastEnders for Dot's funeral was a no-brainer, and it was a real honour to be invited back.
I had a lot of fun but, of course, it was bittersweet. "It was amazing to be back, but hard to be filming this storyline. I can tell the viewers now that Dot gets the beautiful send-off that she deserves.
