‘Dune’ TV Series at HBO Max Finds New Showrunner

HBO clearly likes what they see with Mike White’s “The White Lotus,” a new series that has earned solid ratings but also really captured the conversation on social media. This critically-acclaimed six-part limited series will return for a second installment, the streaming and cable subscriber announced today.

Johnson created the series and will also direct and executive produce.

EXCLUSIVE: Daniel Augustin (Grey’s Anatomy, David Makes Man), Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut (Cruel Summer), Amandla Jahava (DMZ) and Jaboukie Young-White (The Daily Show, Dating & New York) have been tapped for recurring roles in Rap Sh*t, HBO Max’s half-hour comedy series from Insecure co-creator Rae and her Hoorae Productions.

Overlook, the series inspired by Stephen King’s The Shining, will not be moving forward with HBO Max.The drama series came from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, and would feature iconic characters from King’s The Shining.

Jason Momoa is campaigning for a full length director’s cut of Denis Villeneuve’s forthcoming Dune movie.The sci-fi epic, based on the first half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name, is due for release on October 22 in the UK.And the Game Of Thrones star is already calling for a four to six hour cut to be released.“It was a cool movie,” he told The New York Times.

Denis Villeneuve is one of the few filmmakers working today that is able to make huge blockbuster films that would firmly fall in the realm of “real cinema.” With features like “Blade Runner 2049” and the upcoming “Dune,” it appears that the filmmaker is able to take a massive budget and not just deliver thrills and suspense. He’s able to inject real emotion and substance in his popcorn flicks.

After its restricted but still strong 77th edition, the Venice Film Festival is back with a vengeance, with what might be its most exciting line-up in years – a far cry from the bizarre announcements of this year’s TIFF (which boasts… “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” of all things). This morning in Rome, the line-up of the forthcoming 78th edition was announced in full, ahead of its planned opening on 1 September.

This week, the trades revealed that Diane Ademu-John (a producer on “The Haunting of Bly Manor”) had come abord “Dune: The Sisterhood,” HBO Max’s “Dune” spin-off series. Taking over from the previous showrunner Jon Spaihts— who left in late 2019 to focus on writing the script for the second of the “Dune” reboot films (yes, it’s supposed to be a two-partner— Ademu-John was reported to be the writer, showrunner, and executive producer of the series.

With the Cannes Film Festival in the rearview, the next big festival to focus on this fall will be the 78th Annual Venice Film Festival. Major films are already tipped to debut there, Denis Villeneuve‘s sci-fi blockbuster “Dune” Kristen Stewart’s Princess Diana drama “Spencer,” “Halloween Kills,” and new films by Pedro Almodovar and Jane Campion.

WarnerMedia loves the idea of making a franchise film and then immediately spinning it off into a series on HBO Max. Executives have said this much in interviews, and we’ve already seen this being put into action with “Peacemaker” being spun off of “The Suicide Squad.” And soon, it’s going to happen with “Dune.” That is, if the new showrunner for the spinoff series sticks around.

Fans are getting an even better look at the world of “Dune”.

Denis Villeneuve has waited a while to showcase his latest film to mainstream audiences. “Dune,” based on Frank Herbert‘s iconic series of novels, is a high-budget fantasy epic with an all-star cast starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin, just to name a few of the film’s stars right now.

Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is returning to the world of big-budget science fiction after the fantastic “Blade Runner: 2049,” a follow-up to the original directed by Ridley Scott. His latest film “Dune,” is a remake of the classic Frank Herbert sci-fi fantasy epic that partially helped inspire many elements of George Lucas‘ original “Star Wars” trilogy.

Even though he probably doesn’t realize it, it appears Andy Muschietti is following in the footsteps of James Wan, a filmmaker that started with popular horror films and then transitioned into DC superheroes.
