Dumfries’ Big Burns Supper organisers are to stage four weekends of events featuring an electric mix of music comedy, community, and celebration.
Hundreds of school pupils who have been preparing for the postponed Dumfries carnival for more than two years will finally get to present their costumes in a parade on the streets of the town as part of the 90thcelebration of Guid Nychburris Day on June 18.
That weekend will also see comedians Russell Kane and Rosie Jones perform on Friday, June 17, in the Loreburn Hall ahead of a free Guid Nychburris Day special from noon, run with Guid Nychburris and Dumfries Cornets Club.
Doors open at 12pm for the unticketed event for all ages which will include Little Fix, Brass Funkeys, Double Trouble comedy clown magic show, Kaleidoscope Faces by Imogen, Magic Monty balloon twisting, storytelling from Susi Briggs and Tales from the Lighthouse storytelling among others.
There will also be local performers later in the day and through the evening which so far include Tiderays, Lovecut Revolvers, The Lutras and Hardwicke Circus.
It follows the opening weekend of April 29 to May 1 featuring tribute bands and local performers.
Tribute bands The Quo Experience, David Bowie Live and The Bob Marley and The Wailers Experience will bring 10 hours of music from 3.30pm in the Loreburn Hall on the Friday.
This will be followed on the Saturday with Complete Stone Roses, Love DistrAction, Simple Minded, Hells Bells and Deacon Blues providing 11 hours of music, starting at 2.30pm. And on the Sunday will be 10 hours of music from Rocketman, Abba Revival and Mercury from 2.30pm.
