EXCLUSIVE: FX is getting back into espionage.
Deadline understands that the network is developing drama series Drug Spies, from Noah Pink, who wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Tetris movie at Apple, author Kirk Wallace Johnson and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland.
We hear that the original series, which is inspired by true events, tells the stories of spies who work on behalf of multinational drug companies.
FX is understood to have beaten out a number of rivals to land the project, which is in the early stages of development, in a competitive bidding process.
Sister, the company run by Liz Murdoch, Stacey Snider and Jane Featherstone, which was behind hit HBO series Chernobyl, is producing in association with Oil & Cattle. Sister is also behind Netflix’s upcoming six-parter Eric, starring Benedict Cumberbatch playing a puppeteer whose son goes missing in 1980s Manhattan from Abi Morgan, and Amazon’s forthcoming series The Power from Naomi Alderman.
While some of the plot details are behind kept under wraps, we hear the character driven series tells the story of two former CIA special forces soldiers who are dispatched by Big Pharma to take down the most prominent generic drug producer in the world.
Pink is writing the pilot, based on a story that he and Wallace Johnson came up with, and is set to serve as showrunner. He is the creator of Nat Geo’s Genius and wrote Tetris, which stars Taron Egerton and is set to premiere later this month after premiering at SXSW. He also wrote a script for the upcoming Fred Astaire movie, directed by Paul King, that has Tom Holland attached as the star.

Yes Yes, an unscripted entertainment venture, is founded by broadcaster and format developer Richard Bacon, who has presented “The Big Breakfast” and “Top of the Pops” and created formats “The Hustler,” hosted by Craig Ferguson (ABC), “This Is My House” (BBC1) and “I Literally Just Told You,” hosted by Jimmy Carr (Channel 4). The deal allows Yes Yes to leverage access to the SISTER’s global network of creative companies and investments spanning television and film, podcasting, publishing and live events.

Told through a series of interviews conducted by a curious interrogator, Rya Goodwin (Seyfried), the story of Danny's life unfolds, revealing how elements of his past shaped his future, including the twists and turns that led him to a life-altering incident. Its story sees a long-term employee of a large family-run conglomerate falsely accused of embezzlement. After he is shot on an overseas business trip, he finds himself in the body of the family’s grandson and decides to use his new identity as a means by which to take revenge on the family and the corporation.
Earlier this month, Jason Clarke, Scott Eastwood, and Chaske Spencer joined the cast of Kari Skogland‘s “Wind River: The Next Chapter,” an upcoming sequel to Taylor Sheridan‘s 2017 film. Now four more actors join the cast, including Gil Birmingham reprising his role from the original movie.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Will Sharpe, who endeared himself to audiences on “The White Lotus,” is directing a feature film adaptation of Michelle Zauner’s 2021 memoir “Crying in H Mart.” Zauner’s novel centers around her relationship with her Korean heritage and her mother, who died from cancer in 2014. Best known as the frontwoman for indie-pop band Japanese Breakfast, Zauner is adapting the screenplay and will also play a part in the film’s music. According to the official synopsis from MGM, which is backing the movie, “Crying in H Mart” is a “coming-of age story about a half-Korean daughter who returns to small town Oregon to care for her Korean mother. Critical and smothering Chong-mi and creative and independent Michelle struggle to understand each other across a cultural fault line, only learning to see and accept one another through the formative power of music and the vibrant flavors of Korean cooking.”

Chris Brown has been criticised for inviting a Love Island star up onto the stage at one of his recent concerts and grabbing her by the throat.
