A woman has gone viral on TikTok for discovering a little known compartment that many car doors feature.
TikTok user @bourntocreate has gone viral with more than 22 million views and 1.6 million likes on the video.
In the video, the woman discovers a plug on the car door, and when she pulls it out water leaks from the door. You can hear someone saying "Please drain your doors. Drain your doors people… c’mon.”
She was trying to figure out what was wrong with her sister's car door, and during her research she found out about this water-holding compartment.
Many commenters couldn't believe that the video was real, and had to see if their own cars had the compartment, the Mirror reports.
One said "Can’t tell if this is for real or y’all are playing along".
Another replied: "It’s very real also need to drain your chassis rails sometimes.”
A third wrote: “I swear I learn something new every day!"
These compartments are for the water that gets past window seals, and can get clogged up. You should make sure that you're draining them regularly.
Usually, you'll find them at the bottom of of the door although that can depend on the make and model of your car.
Cars.com, an automotive site said in an article that these draining panels are located in the rocker panels and rear quarter panels, which are both close to the car doors.
According to the website, you should test the plugs in case you have a blockage when cleaning your car.
You should run a hose over the windshield, boots and doors, If the water collects or drains slowly, you may have a blockage. In which case, a garden hose may have enough pressure to unblock the drain holes.
