A booze and drug-fuelled lorry driver who carried out an 'appalling' attack on Metrolink staff has been jailed.
David Whittaker, 33, bit, punched, throttled and shouted homophobic abuse at three TravelSafe officers in St Peter's Square in Manchester city centre, a court heard.
The incident on the evening of 5 June was sparked by the staff telling Whittaker, of Chapel Lane, Stretford, not to smoke on the platform.
