John Hopewell Chief International Correspondent Sandro Fiorin’s Figa Films has snapped up international sales rights to Pavel Giroud’s “El Caso Padilla,” which, selected for the San Sebastian highly competitive Horizontes Latinos, bids fair to become one of the most notable Latin American doc features of 2022. Variety has also shared in exclusivity a first trailer to the film. The follow-up to Giroud admired 2015 fiction film “El Acompañante,” which won San Sebastian’s Co-Production Forum, “El Caso Padilla” turns on the so-called Padilla Affair. That climaxed with arrest on March 30, 1971 of Heberto Padilla, one of the most exquisite and trenchant of modern Cuban poets whose 1968 poetry collection “Fuera de Juego” constituted a scathing attack on the lack of liberties in Fidel Castro’s Cuba.

Once Upon A Small Town, starring Red Velvet’s Joy.The new visual gives us a glimpse into the greenery of Heedong Village, as the series’ two leads – veterinarian Han Ji-yool (Choo Young-woo) and policewoman Ahn Ja-young (Joy) – emerge from the trees and admire the produce.Each of the characters introduce themselves and their respective occupations, before they’re asked about their dating lives. While Ja-young tells the interviewer that she has no time for romance, Ji-yool tells them that he in fact has someone in mind, the clip including shots of him staring at Ja-young from afar.Based on a web novel of the same name by Park Ha-min, Once Upon A Small Town (whose title was previously reported as Accidental Country Diary) depicts a romance between a man from Seoul and a policewoman from the countryside.

BLACKPINK have returned with ‘Pink Venom’, the lead single from their imminent ‘Born Pink’ album.The song was first teased at the very start of the month (on August 1), when BLACKPINK confirmed their return in a video outlining the ‘Born Pink’ timeline – they’d release a single this month and the album itself in September, before kicking off “the largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group” in October.Listen to ‘Pink Venom’, which features the use of the traditional Korean string instrument called the gayageum, and watch the music video below:‘Born Pink’ will be released on September 16 via YG Entertainment. After expressing his outrage over James Franco being cast as Fidel Castro in the independent feature drama Alina of Cuba, Primetime Emmy winner John Leguizamo has expounded on his stance regarding Hollywood casting non-Latinos in Latino roles. Specifically, in an Instagram post earlier today, he says “Alright, look, I got no problems with James Franco, yo, OK?” while explaining, “I grew up in a era where Latin people couldn’t play Latin people on film.”
