Graeme Souness has suggested Erik ten Hag could already be fighting for his job.
The new Manchester United manager became the first Reds boss since 1921 to lose his first two games, suffering Saturday’s brutal 4-0 loss to Brentford after a 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton on the opening weekend.
United sit bottom of the table as a result and host Liverpool on Monday. Souness said questions will already be asked of Ten Hag’s capabilities and that his position at the club could be under threat already.

“I think the clock is ticking on him (Ten Hag) already,” he told talkSPORT. “I think that’s the nature of being Manchester United manager at this time.
“They expect big things from him. He was successful at Ajax in what is a much inferior league to the Premier League. The demands there are nothing like what he’s got on his shoulders in the Premier League and indeed arguably managing the biggest club in the world.”
When asked if a poor result against Liverpool could see Ten Hag walk, Souness replied: “Don’t be surprised at surprises in football.” He cast a worrying picture for United, who he claimed had not brought in players who can pull them out of the mire.
He added: “I think it’s a difficult time for Man United, I’m not sure with this group of players, with this manager, that they’re going to be any different to where they were last year. I think the players they’ve brought in, they’re not game changers for them.”
