Marcelo Cajueiro Wondery, Amazon’s premium podcast studio, announced April 13 at Rio de Janeiro’s Rio2C, Latin America’s largest creativity and innovation event, a slate of upcoming Portuguese-language titles with Brazilian podcasters for Amazon Music. “Historias da Firma,” a spin-off of storyteller Deia Freitas’ “Nao Inviabilize,” will be exclusive on Amazon Music. Freitas’ new podcast will feature weekly episodes of 10-15 minutes with funny, absurd anonymous stories that happened to employees in Brazilian companies. Chico Felitti, creator of podcasts “A Mulher da Casa Abandonada” and “Ateliê,” is developing a new true crime podcast with Wondery, which will be first available on Amazon Music.

RIAA’s year-end Latin music report for 2022 also highlights an all-time high for the industry at a 6.9% market share — up from 5.9% in 2021. This is especially true on the streaming front where revenue expanded by 25% to $1.06 billion, making up a remarkable 97% of all Latin music revenues. The Latin music scape of 2022 was undoubtedly led by Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti,” the second all-Spanish-language album to reach No. 1 on the 66-year-old Billboard 200 chart. (The first was none other than Bad Bunny’s 2020 album “El Último Tour del Mundo.”) The Puerto Rican megastar was the most-streamed artist globally on Spotify for the third year in a row with more than 18.5 billion streams.

Thania Garcia Myke Towers is eager for his fans to get their hands on his third studio album, “La Vida Es Una” (“Life Is One”). Though much of the 23-song set had been completed not too long after his last studio album, his 2021 major-label debut “Lyke Mike,” Towers purposefully held the record back to orchestrate a sense of delayed gratification that he says has been achingly difficult to maintain. “I know my fans are ready for original solo music but I wanted this to be a record that people could take their time with, really listen to and appreciate,” Towers tells Variety. “I think people had gotten used to my way of rapid releases. … It was like every week, there would be a new song or collaboration – and I wanted there to be a palpable difference between this record and ‘Lyke Mike.’”
