NEW YORK -- Roger Angell, a famed baseball writer and reigning man of letters who during an unfaltering 70-plus years helped define The New Yorker’s urbane wit and style through his essays, humor pieces and editing, has died. He was 101.Angell died Friday of heart failure, according to The New Yorker.Heir to and upholder of The New Yorker’s earliest days, Angell was the son of founding fiction editor Katharine White and stepson of longtime staff writer E.B. White.

NEW YORK -- Network TV’s fondness for reality fare and reboots combine in “The Real Love Boat,” a sea-going dating show that’s part of the CBS fall schedule announced Wednesday.Described as a “romance adventure competition,” the series credits as its inspiration the popular and kitschy comedy-drama “The Love Boat,” which aired from 1977-86 on ABC. “The Real Love Boat” will follow returning shows “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race” on Wednesday, a rare all-reality night for CBS.With so much programming available to viewers, “flow is important, lead-ins are important, compatible programming is important,” said Kelly Kahl, CBS Entertainment president.

EXCLUSIVE: Veteran broadcasting executive Andy King has joined Buchwald to head the agency’s podcast division. In his new role, he will lead the development of client podcast concepts and guide talent through the process of podcast creation, from ideation to distribution. NewFest, the New York film and media organizations has announced the full lineup for its second annual NewFest Pride event – a summer film series returning this year from June 2-6 in a hybrid format featuring a mix of exclusive in-person premieres/panels and virtual screenings. NEW YORK -- Dean Baquet, outgoing executive editor of The New York Times, will lead a fellowship program focusing on local investigative journalism projects at the Times.Baquet and a group of veteran investigative editors will guide journalists producing the efforts, which The Times will let news organizations in the affected areas co-publish or broadcast at no cost, the newspaper said on Tuesday.Details on how many journalism fellows will be part of the program have yet to be announced.The Times said last week that Baquet will be stepping down in June as he has reached 65, the age at which the newspaper's leadership tenure traditionally ends. He'll be replaced by his top deputy, Joseph Kahn.The fellowship will help fill a need at a time when local and state journalism is declining for economic reasons.
