Public Health England (PHE) has released the latest figures on the Delta variant of coronavirus for the number of new cases, hospitalisations and deaths.
According to the most recent data, cases of the variant of concern first identified in India, which now makes up 91 per cent of cases in the UK, are estimated to be doubling every four and a half days in some parts of England.

coronavirus variant dubbed 'Delta Plus' has been detected in the UK - and could have been circulating for weeks. The new variant is a further mutation of the original Delta first discovered in India - and now it has emerged there have been 41 cases picked up in the UK.
