The mother of Dame Deborah James has paid a heartbreaking tribute to her daughter after she tragically lost her fight with bowel cancer aged 40. The BBC podcast star passed away on Tuesday Jun 28, after a devastating five year battle to beat the disease. Deborah’s death was confirmed by her family in an emotional but poignant statement on social media, where she had been documenting her journey throughout her fight.
Under the username Bowelgran, her mum Heather, shared some pictures of her daughter, who will be remembered for her incredible strength and amazing fundraising to help others combat bowel cancer. "My heart is broken. Love you forever," she wrote alongside a selection of snaps that highlighted Deborah’s infectious charm and enduring smile.
In a longer statement released online, her family said: "We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Dame Deborah James; the most amazing wife, daughter, sister, mummy. Deborah passed away peacefully today, surrounded by her family. "Deborah, who many of you will know as Bowelbabe, was an inspiration and we are incredibly proud of her and her work and commitment to charitable campaigning, fundraising and her endless efforts to raise awareness of cancer that touched so many lives," they wrote.
"Deborah shared her experience with the world to raise awareness, break down barriers, challenge taboos and change the conversation around cancer. Even in her most challenging moments, her determination to raise money and awareness was inspiring.
