Retired footballer David Beckham proudly talks about receiving his OBE in recent unearthed footage following his recent emotional visit to see the Queen's coffin to pay his respects. David received the honour of an OBE back in 2003 and in unearthed footage, the former Manchester United star can be seen talking about his pride in the lead up to the presentation.
The former England captain, 47, is videoed in a hotel room sitting on the edge of the bed as he can be heard talking about the honour. The grainy footage is from documentary The Real Beckhams which aired 20 years ago.
David and his wife Victoria, 48, were filmed as they got dressed up to meet the Queen. He said: “When you think about those who’ve been given the OBE, like Bobby Charlton who was my idol and my dad’s idol, to then hear I was getting one, it probably hit me when I first received a letter that said ‘David Beckham OBE’.” He paused for a second before ending the video simply saying: “It’s amazing.” The video has resurfaced following David's recent visit to see the Queen’s coffin as it is Lying-in-State and was praised for "declining a pass to jump queue" and instead waited for 14 hours.
At the 12 hour mark, he told ITV News' Neil Connery: “I was so lucky I was able to have a few moments in my life to be around Her Majesty. “A sad day but it's a day to remember the incredible legacy she left." David continued: "I grew up in a household of royalists and I was brought up that way." He also told ITV news: "I thought by coming at 2:00 am it was going to be a little bit quieter - I was wrong.The star jokingly said his "knees were ok” from standing in the long queue, but the same couldn't be said for his back.
