Darren Criss, who just welcomed his first child into the world three days ago, is celebrating the opening of his Broadway play American Buffalo!
The 35-year-old actor and his co-stars Sam Rockwell and Laurence Fishburne took their opening night bows in front of a star-studded crowd at the Circle in the Square Theatre on Thursday (April 14) in New York City.
In American Buffalo, three small time hustlers want a bigger cut of the American dream. David Mamet’s classic about loyalty and greed returns to Broadway more explosive and pointed than ever, exposing a timely American truth: crime and business are two sides of the same coin.
Stars in attendance at the event included Sam‘s partner Leslie Bibb, as well as Angela Bassett, Josh Brolin, Bryan Cranston, Billy Crudup, Tony Goldwyn, Piper Perabo, Anthony Anderson, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Louisa Jacobson, Marin Ireland, Camryn Manheim, Callie Thorne, and Broadway star Victoria Clark.
The limited run is open through July 10.
FYI: Angela is wearing an Azzi & Osta outfit and Sarah Flint heels.

Sasha Urban editorDirector Sam Gold’s Broadway production of “Macbeth,” which stars Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga, was already a tall order for its cast, who had only four weeks of rehearsal before previews began. It was made more difficult by multiple COVID cases, including Craig’s, that caused the production to close for 11 days earlier this month.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media ReporterNicolas Cage is back… not that he went anywhere. The actor’s latest movie “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” a meta comedy in which he plays a fictionalized version of himself, is one of several films opening nationwide over the weekend. Darren Criss as Bobby, a naive young meathead who wants to be like both of them. Worst mentors ever! Rockwell, shockingly, has only worked with Mamet once before on the 2001 film “Heist,” which the playwright wrote and directed.
Offstage, and sometimes on, David Mamet can be infuriating and exasperating, as anyone who has witnessed his recent nonsensical, offensive media blitz can attest, and then along comes something like American Buffalo – possibly his greatest work, all due apologies to Glengarry Glen Ross – with a cast so in sync with the playwright’s “profane poetry” that for a couple hours it’s not impossible to put aside whatever it is Mamet thinks needs saying on Fox News these days.
Daniel D'Addario Chief TV CriticThe set of the new Broadway production of “American Buffalo” at Circle in the Square is choked with the unwanted artifacts of recent history. The show’s two acts take place in a junk shop glutted with relics, one whose barest gestures toward organization are just begging to be undone; the place is already sliding into disorder, so why not finish the job? It’s fitting in more ways than this production may anticipate.
