Tennis star Daniil Medvedev has slammed the Australian Open crowd after they mimicked the Cristiano Ronaldo 'Siuuuu' celebration during his match with Nick Kyrgios.
The second seed took to the Rod Laver Arena overnight and managed to survive a momentary scare against the unseeded Australian, winning 7-6 6-4 4-6 6-2.
Medvedev was left unhappy by those in the attendance who chanted the Manchester United player's signature cry between first and second serves.
Speaking to Eurosport afterwards, the 25-year-old said: "It’s not everybody who’s doing it, but those who are doing it probably have a low IQ."
He later added in a press conference: "I enjoyed the win. It’s not easy to play against the crowd.
"I feel like these matches, they are not easy to play, but they stay as fun matches afterwards, because in the end we gave the crowd a big show. Probably Nick more because he’s a big entertainer.”
Kyrgios agreed with Medvedev's assessment of the 'Siuuuu' chants but added: "I thought the atmosphere was awesome. That’s what sport is."
Medvedev is not the first tennis player to call out the Australian Open crowd over the Ronaldo distraction.
Sir Andy Murray called the chant 'incredibly irritating' after it featured in his five-set thriller over Nikoloz Basilashvili.
Siu, which means 'yes' in Spanish, has been prominent in Ronaldo's goal celebration since his time in Madrid.
It is not just tennis crowds who are enjoying the chant though.
Raheem Sterling filmed his son Thiago performing the celebration after scoring a goal in his living room.
