Joe Otterson TV ReporterDakota Fanning has joined the cast of the Showtime drama series “Ripley,” Variety has learned.The series is based on Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels. She joins previously announced cast members Andrew Scott and Johnny Flynn.In the series, Tom Ripley (Scott), a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, is hired by a wealthy businessman to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home.

Did you like “Mank” but really wish it was about “The Godfather” and not in black and white? And not directed by David Fincher? And not about “Citizen Kane?” Well, okay, maybe Barry Levinson’s upcoming film about the making of “The Godfather” doesn’t share too much with Fincher’s award-winning Netflix film, but they’re both about the making of classic films and they’re both getting pretty great casts.

Elle Fanning has been cast in Francis and The Godfather— the project about the making of The Godfather— playing Ali MacGraw. She joins a cast that also includes Oscar Isaac as Francis Ford Coppola, Jake Gyllenhaal as Robert Evans, and Elisabeth Moss as Eleanor Coppola.

Emmy winner Ray Liotta will make a return to series television as a lead opposite Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser in Apple’s limited series In With The Devil, an adaptation of James Keene and Hillel Levin’s 2010 novel In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption, from Richard Plepler’s Eden Productions, Imperative Entertainment and Apple Studios.

Dakota Fanning is set to pportray Susan Elizabeth Ford opposite Michelle Pfeiffer’s Betty Ford and Aaron Eckhart’s Gerald Ford in Showtime’s anthology series The First Lady, headlined by Viola Davis, Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson. Davis executive produces the series, directed and executive produced by Susanne Bier and produced by Lionsgate TV and Showtime.
