‘Cyberpunk 2077’ is getting a sequel – potentially with multiplayer

Kate Aurthur editor SPOILER ALERT: This interview contains light spoilers for the first four episodes of “High School,” now streaming on Amazon Freevee.  When Clea DuVall first met the Canadian indie musicians Tegan and Sara Quin years ago, “I was not familiar with their music,” she recalled in an interview this week. Nonetheless, after DuVall — a prolific actor in movies such as “But I’m a Cheerleader” and “Argo” — was introduced to the duo when she joined some friends who were seeing them perform, the three women eventually all became good friends “through being in the same circles.” As DuVall began to explore directing, the first things she ever did were promotional videos for Tegan and Sara’s “Heartthrob” record, released in early 2013. Since then, she’s collaborated with them a number of times: Among other things. Sara Quin scored DuVall’s 2016 feature debut as a writer-director “The Intervention,” and Tegan and Sara wrote the Christmas song “Make You Mine This Season” for her second film, 2020’s lesbian romcom “Happiest Season.”  

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic The “Halloween” series, which comes to an end this weekend (and if you believe that, I have a set of very rusty kitchen knives I’d like to sell you), has always been the least pretentious of horror franchises. A towering killer in a rubber mask pops out of the shadows to slash one victim after the next. Horror doesn’t get much more basic than that. But, of course, the “Halloween” series has always had a pretentious side too — the side that began with Donald Pleasance droning on about eee-vil, and the side that has extended, over the latest trilogy, to the top-heavy handwringing of Laurie Strode’s self-actualized guilt and despair. As for Michael Myers, who started out as a small-town killer, he has been turned, more and more explicitly, into A Force Larger Than Himself. And in “Halloween Ends,” that trend now culminates in a movie where Michael, in a certain way, is barely in the movie; he’s the film’s totem, its mascot, its looming emblem of evil. “Halloween Ends” doesn’t finish off the franchise by being the most scary or fun entry in the series. (It should have been both, but it’s neither.) Instead, it’s the most joylessly metaphorical and convoluted entry.

3RD UPDATE: Cuba Gooding Jr. will receive no jail time in his forcible touching case after pleading guilty to a lesser charge today in Manhattan Criminal Court and complying with the terms of a conditional plea agreement reached in April. Gooding replaced his misdemeanor plea with a plea to a noncriminal harassment violation and faces no additional penalties.

Stadia might be dead but Night City lives on, as fans who were playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Stadia can now transfer their saves to other platforms.Developer CD Projekt Red has released a guide for Stadia players, advising players on how to transfer their Cyberpunk 2077 saves from Stadia to PC and consoles.The process is a (relatively) painless one for PC players, requiring them to download their save directly from Google and, with some fiddling, place it in their Cyberpunk 2077 game folder. The process is a little more complicated for console players though, requiring them to make use of cross progression on PC and syncing it with their GOG accounts in order to transfer their progress.Full instructions on how to transfer your saves from Stadia are available from CD Projekt Red here.Google announced the demise of its cloud streaming service Stadia in September, stating that it had failed to gain “the traction with users that we expected,” though it maintained that “the underlying technology platform that powers Stadia has been proven at scale and transcends gaming.”Stadia is due to shut down completely early next year, and all Stadia hardware purchased through the Google store and all games and add-ons bought via the Stadia store will be refunded.Stadia’s demise might have been coming for some time now, but Google still failed to notify developers ahead of the announcement – even when they had games due to come out on the platform, understandably upsetting a number of them.They’re not the only ones upset too, one Red Dead Redemption 2 player will lose 6,000 hours of playtime once Stadia shuts down.

Former Eastenders star Shaheen Jafarghol looks completely different now as he sports a short blonde buzzcut.The actor played the role of Shakil Kazemi from 2016 to 2018, who is the younger brother of Davood Ghadami’s Kush Kazemi. After leaving the show a few years back through an explosive knife-crime story, Shaheen has worked as nurse Marty Kirkby on both Casualty and Holby City, which are both set in the same hospital. Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Novelist Amy Tan and Oscar-winning “Rain Man” screenwriter Ron Bass are on board to deliver a sequel to “The Joy Luck Club,” the 1993 movie that broke new ground for Asian American representation. The new film, “Joy Luck Club 2,” is set up at Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment Group, with Ashok and Priya Amritraj producing alongside Tan, Bass and Jeff Kleeman. A director hasn’t been announced yet. The original “Joy Luck Club,” directed by Wayne Wang, was an epic, multigenerational saga of Chinese and Chinese-American mothers and daughters, whose histories, stories and lives interweave as they navigate life. Club members included characters played by Tsai Chin, France Nuyen, Lisa Lu and Kieu Chinh. The ensemble cast also included Tamlyn Tomita, Rosalind Chao and Russell Wong.
