Cristiano Ronaldo has warned that Erik ten Hag will need time to be a success at Manchester United, though he retains hope that the club will challenge for trophies next season.

One thing the club did manage to achieve, however, was their aim of hiring their next permanent manager before the end of the campaign, however.
It was announced that Ajax boss Ten Hag would take charge in the summer last month after a £1.75million fee was agreed to release him from his contract in Amsterdam. The 52-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

Ronaldo has been impressed by Ten Hag's exploits at Ajax but has made it clear he must be given time and the authority to make serious change at Old Trafford if the club is to finally return to its past glory.
“I know that he has done a fantastic job at Ajax, and that he is an experienced coach," he told United's in-house media. "But we have to give him time.
“Things must change the way he wants. If he does well, all of Manchester United will be successful, so I wish him well. We are all happy and excited, not only as players, but as fans as well. We have to believe that next year we can win titles."
Ronaldo's United future remains in doubt, however, due to the club's failure to qualify for Champions League football. The Portuguese's contract doesn't expire until 2023, with the option for a year extension,
