Council services affected by bank holiday

King Charles banknotes will be revealed by the end of this year before entering circulation in 2024. The Bank of England has confirmed plans to introduce currency featuring the new monarch following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth aged 96 on September 8. In a press release, the Bank of England said: "His Majesty’s portrait will appear on existing designs of all four polymer banknotes (£5, £10, £20 and £50).

The Department for Work and Pensions has issued updated guidance on State Pension, Tax Credits and benefit payments scheduled to be made in the two days immediately after the bank holiday for the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

On Monday 19th September, the day of the Queen’s funeral, everything from shops to cinemas and even doctor’s surgeries will close their doors to give their staff time to reflect on her majesty’s life.

It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will not be wearing military uniform for the Queen's memorial events, and that the 37 year old will simply have on a morning suit as he insisted that his military service is "not determined by the uniform". A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex said, as per Omid Scobie's Twitter: “[Prince Harry] will wear a morning suit throughout events honouring his grandmother. His decade of military service is not determined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully ask that focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.” The statement comes after royal fans argued that it was only fair that the Duke should be able to wear his military uniform after serving his country for ten years.

Aldi, B&Q and Primark are among dozens of shops that have announced they will shut their stores next Monday, the day of the Queen’s funeral. Monday, September 19, will be a bank holiday in the UK as the Queen’s state funeral takes place in London.

Some of the UK's biggest supermarkets, including Waitrose, Tesco and Morrisons, are set to reduce their operating hours next week to mark the Queen's funeral.

Her Majesty passed away at the age 96 on Thursday 8 September at Balmoral Castle and The Royal Family released a statement on 10 September confirming her funeral arrangements. King Charles III also confirmed that the day of the funeral will be a national bank holiday.
