Coronation Street actress Sally Carman has opened up about how her ITV soap alter-ego Abi Webster was totally in the dark about her shock pregnancy. Corrie viewers watched open mouthed as Abi began to experience contractions and went into labour at the side of the road in Sunday 6 March’s episode.
In this week’s episodes, viewers will see her give birth to a baby boy, before abandoning him in the hospital and heading back to Weatherfield. While it was clear that Abi had had no idea she was expecting, some soap fans questioned how she hadn’t realised she was pregnant.

She didn't put weight on particularly, so there were just no signs.” However, despite her initial shock, Sally explains Abi quickly goes into fight or flight mode and knows she has to get herself to the hospital.
She said: “In this instance, where Abi is on the side of the road, she's got two choices.” “It doesn't occur to her to just lie down and say 'Okay, this is it'. She instantly goes into 'fight or flight' mode.
