Coronation Street fans think they have figured out a new sinister twist involving Stephen Reid after he smooched Jenny Connor before her engagement to Leo Thompkins on Friday. Only recently, cash-strapped Stephen has been pretending to his family that he is a rich and successful businessman, even trying to get his mother Audrey Roberts to sign paperwork for her trust fund, giving him the majority of her money.
During Friday's episode, a devastated Jenny, who had recently split with Leo due to him moving to Canada, decided to hit the bottle to drown her sorrows. At the same time, a delighted Stephen realised that Jenny is the sole owner of the Rovers Return Inn pub as he soon made a move on the vulnerable landlady.
After some serious flirting, the two headed to the backroom where they had a passionate kiss and just as things were about to go further, they were interrupted by Gemma Winter, who was on her way to tell Jenny that Leo wanted to ask her something.Thankfully, Gemma was able to distract an oblivious Leo as Jenny sneaked out the back room and was left stunned to find her on-off partner proposing to her, to which she said yes. However, in true soap style, as the couple celebrated their engagement in the bistro later, Stephen entered as he shot several awkward glances over to Jenny.
And things went from bad to worse when Stephen learnt of their plans to move to Canada as he offered to help the newly engaged couple, even exchanging numbers with Leo. Viewers now think that cash-strapped Stephen will blackmail Jenny over the kiss and could even attempt to steal the pub off her in a sinister twist.
