In case you’re not very terminally online, you may have missed this story and rumor. And to be fair, we do try and ignore some of these wild rumors, but this one has been so crazy it’s prompted DC Studios co-chief James Gunn to respond.

Amazon’s Prime Video is in negotiations to acquire a John Candy documentary from Colin Hanks and Ryan Reynolds, TheWrap has confirmed. Hanks, son of Tom Hanks and star of “Life in Pieces,” “Orange County” and “A Friend of the Family,” will direct the project while Reynolds, star of “Deadpool,” “Free Guy” and “The Adam Project,” will produce alongside George Dewey via his Maximum Effort production company. The documentary feature will explore John Candy’s life and career, including starring roles in “The Great Outdoors,” “Spaceballs,” “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” “Uncle Buck” and “Cool Runnings.” The actor was on the verge of establishing himself as a comic actor who could also handle dramatic roles in weightier fare like “Only the Lonely” and Oliver Stone’s “JFK” when he died in 1994 of a heart attack at the age of 43.

EXCLUSIVE: Emmy winner and Tony nominee Colman Domingo, whose new Netflix series The Madness was given the go-ahead yesterday, has plenty of room on his plate for Fat Ham.

Showtime has given a straight-to-series order to The Department (w/t) based on the acclaimed French espionage political thriller The Bureau, from George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures, MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. Clooney will direct the series and also executive produce with Heslov through their Smokehouse Pictures. Production is slated to begin later this year.

I guess when you have George Clooney saying he’ll direct a new prestige drama series for you, it’s kind of hard to pass up. At least, in the case of Showtime, which just gave a straight-to-series order for a season of “The Department,” directed by the aforementioned Clooney.

Outer Banks actors Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline are hardly the first stars to work together after a breakup, but they may be the most drama-free. Stokes and Cline got together in 2020 after playing hometown enemies-to-lovers John B and Sarah on the before about a year and a half later in November 2021. While some behind-the-scenes breakups are more dramatic than others— practically dedicated to her High School Musical: The Musical: The Series costar —Stokes and Cline say they were able to keep things completely professional while filming . "Mads and I have been working together now for 30 episodes, and we made a promise to each other before we even started dating that the work was always going to come first," told in a new interview.
