‘Extraction 2’ Review: Chris Hemsworth’s Actioner Cements Director Sam Hargraves Talents At ‘John Wick’-Like Levels

It’s no death-defying leap to state that we are currently in the middle of a blockbuster action revolution, in which former stunt performers and coordinators-turned-feature-directors have reminded us why we love explosive scenes, sharply executed fights, and over-the-top brawn. Although movie stars still help sell in these projects (often by boasting how much they do their own stunts), it’s the filmmakers who are now the real ass-kickers.

‘Songs About F—ing’ Director James Gallagher on Capturing the Sex-Fueled Grandeur of Marc Rebillet

Ethan Shanfeld Half an hour into “Songs About Fucking,” James Gallagher’s music documentary premiering at Tribeca on Saturday, Marc Rebillet points the microphone at a burly, bearded gentleman standing in the front row of his concert and asks, “Sir, how are you?” “I’m great,” says the man, dressed in only his underwear and a bathrobe. “I’m pregnant and it’s yours.” “I didn’t expect you to be here, if I’m being honest,” replies Rebillet, also robe-clad, weighing his options. “You wanna come up here and deliver this baby?”  Rebillet then invites three women — one of them actually carrying a child — up onstage to assist with the procedure, before the so-called pregnant man grabs the mic and starts rapping over a techno beat. Then, he sits down so Rebillet can thrust himself from between his legs — an infant, crying on the floor.

‘Cobweb’ Review: Song Kang-ho Stars in Kim Jee-woon’s Frantic, Flimsy Moviemaking Meta-Farce

Jessica Kiang Director Kim Ki-yeol (Song Kang-ho) only needs two more days of reshoots to craft a new ending to his latest film, and it will no longer be the trashy potboiler everyone thought he was making. It will be, he declares frequently, “A masterpiece!” Director Kim Jee-woon does not seem to harbor similar aspirations for his meta-movie “Cobweb” — his loosest, least substantial and most slapdash film in quite some time — though it’s safe to say the gulf between it and masterpiece status is a little wider than a two-day reshoot could possibly bridge. A film containing another film; a filmmaker referring to the trials of a filmmaker: It’s a movie of many layers, all of them garish and goofy, none of them great.
