In football, there are players who need to be managed and players who manage themselves.
The latter are usually leaders and Christian Eriksen certainly falls into that category. The Denmark hero showcased his on-field talents in his country’s 2-1 Nations League loss to Croatia on Thursday, bending an equaliser into the top corner.
He’s yet to hit the target for United but his link-up play in the centre of the park has had fans drooling. Eriksen demonstrated his quality again for his country this week, ending the loss to Croatia with 49 accurate passes - but he was still unhappy with his shift.

Speaking after the game, he said: “Personally, I make a lot of mistakes, which means that they come into play in some dangerous situations. So, it's the little things that make us not good enough."
It's not the first time Eriksen has been self-critical and demanding of himself since becoming a United player. He told teammates that they ought to be more clinical following the 1-0 win over Leicester earlier this month.
He said: “I think we should have [killed the game], it was similar to Southampton. We did very well until we scored.” This yearning to strive for better and not settle for the mediocre is what Erik ten Hag wants from his players.
“Good is not good enough, we have to do better every day. Bring the maximum on the pitch every day, individually and as a team,” the United boss said post-Foxes. He obviously saw this in Eriksen, who only accepts high standards of himself.
