Hold onto your hats – and everything else for that matter – as Emmerdale celebrates its 50th birthday in style this week, when a killer storm ravages the village. The rural soap has seen all manner of high drama since it broadcast its first episode in 1972. Back then the show was a cosy lunchtime drama, centred on lives of the Sugden family on the Emmerdale Farm of the show’s original title. But as the eighties gave way to the nineties, the show was given a big makeover, moving to a teatime slot and famously dropping an entire jet plane on the village in its first big stunt episode.

In case you didn’t get the memo, this is apparently the month of surprise deals events. Amazon’s October Early Access Sale (basically just a splashy name for Prime Day 2.0) just concluded Wednesday night, but dozens of retailers are churning out more sales through the end of the month. It’s partly a way to capitalize on early holiday shopping but it’s also the result of retailers having too much stuff. A record $732 billion of merchandise is sitting in warehouses so they need people like you to jump on these sales so they don’t go to waste. Brooklinen is putting on one of the best deals events this week, slashing the price of basically everything on their site by 15%. And when they say a sitewide sale, they mean sitewide — everything from their sheet sets (sateen, percale, linen) to comforters (down feathers, down alternatives) and even new seasonal offerings in cashmere and flannel, are down by at least 15% through Monday, Oct. 17.
Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand in the shade Pinkgasm is a long-time favourite with makeup artists and celebrities alike, delivering a pretty, shimmery rose colour to cheeks. But priced at £29 here, it’s not the cheapest way to fake a flattering flush. Luckily, TikTok appears to have found a solution. There are a number of products doing the rounds on the social media app that TikTokers claim give the same effect as the Charlotte Tilbury highlighter, including a Wet n Wild makeup stick (which isn't available to buy in the UK) and a Kiko Milano liquid blush pot that’s now sadly discontinued.

In a surprise turn of events, Amazon announced last month that they would be holding a second Prime Day this year. Following the two-day deals event that the retail behemoth holds every summer comes what the site is calling the Prime Early Access Sale, which kicks off on Oct. 11. The event will see much of the same price cuts on products in every category, from apparel and tech to home entertainment and beauty. While the major deals event (Prime Day 2.0, if you will) comes just in time for the holiday shopping craze, it’s also the result of retailers having too much stuff. A record $732 billion of merchandise is sitting in warehouses, which is why brands like Target, J. Crew, Nine West, Brooklinen and dozens more are also having sales this week.
