On the afternoon of Thursday 8 September, Buckingham Palace announced the sad news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's passing. But hours before her death, the Royal Family were informed of her "hours to live" condition, with many members rushing to get to her bedside.
According to Daily Mail, Charles, 73, who is now King Charles III, and his sister Princess Anne, 72, were by their beloved mother as she passed away – but others, including Prince William, 40, Prince Andrew, 62, and Prince Edward, 58, didn't make it in time. William, Andrew, Edward and his wife Sophie are said to have all flown in from Berkshire via a private jet to Aberdeen before they made their way over to Balmoral to see her.
Meanwhile Prince William's brother Harry, 37, who was due to attend a charity event with wife Meghan Markle in London last night, also rushed to reach Balmoral to get there in time, but arrived at 8pm – nearly an hour and a half after the public were told of the Queen's passing. Harry’s wife Meghan, also 40, has not travelled to Scotland with him, with the Duchess remaining in London.
Prior to Harry's arrival, a statement from Buckingham Palace, which announced the devastating news, read: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon." Using Charles and Camilla's new titles, it continued: “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.” Since then, royals and celebrities alike have shared tributes in honour of the longest reining monarch in UK history. Sharing his grief, King Charles III said in a statement: "The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.
