The Great British Bake Off presenter Matt Lucas has hit back at claims that he was shown ‘favouritism’ when he made his baking debut in the tent. In the most recent episode of the Celebrity Bake Off, Matt donned his apron and stepped in to compete against the likes of Example and Annie Mac when another famous face dropped out of the show at the last minute. The 48 year old was seen attempting to make glass window biscuits, and judge Paul Hollywood soon stepped in to give him a helping hand.
Matt’s co-star Paul, 56, kneaded some dough for him and Matt later managed to get Paul’s seal of approval - and the famous Hollywood handshake - for his efforts. I don’t care. I got a Hollywood Handshake and I won the Technical.” He then went on to joke: “Plus I know where they keep the Star Baker aprons so I’m going to take one anyway.
Plus I’m an icon and a national treasure.” However Matt, who hosts the series alongside Noel Fielding, is not the only person from the show to speak out in his defence. The heat’s eventual winner, rapper Example, also commended Matt for taking part - especially with no time to prepare. He said: “I think fair play to him as a lot of people will think maybe he wanted to do this and he didn’t want to do it as he had no preparation.” There have also been plenty more memorable moments during this year’s Celebrity Bake Off, including one courtesy of TV
